Set up a small baby book

Although you may not have a lot of photographs, you may be able to take a photograph or two of the baby before they are placed with their adoptive parents. You will also have souvenirs from the pregnancy, such as ultrasound photographs, pictures of your growing belly, and photographs with friends and family while pregnant.

While you may not want these scattered around the house as reminders, it is a good idea to keep them in a small baby book. Compiling a baby book will give you something tangible to look at when you want to reminisce about your pregnancy and baby. 

Don't feel like you have to talk

Though people may ask you how the birth went, do not feel as if you have to share any details. If you are not sure how you feel about the adoption or if you are feeling emotional, you can decline to talk about the adoption aside to say that everything went smoothly.

On the other hand, if you need someone to speak to about the adoption and you do not want to talk to your family, ask the adoption agency for referrals to a counselor. This can help you sort through your emotions without having to talk to friends or family about feelings that are hard to express. 

Go back to your routine immediately

Routines are good in that they keep your mind active and make sure that your mind does not wander all day. Although it may be hard to face going back to work, school, and participating in all of your other activities, getting back into the groove of being your old self will help you to feel like your old self again. Go back to work as soon as you are cleared, begin to hang out with friends, and participate in your hobbies at the same time. This will help you feel back to normal in every way.
